History

Xetma Vollenweider is much more than only a new name. Xetma Vollenweider – these are well-tried textile finishing systems in a new quality. The two companies of the Xetma Vollenweider Group – Xetma Vollenweider GmbH (D) and Xetma Vollenweider AG (CH) – taken together represent almost 300 years of experience in the textile industry.

Xetma Vollenweider GmbH

Xetma Vollenweider GmbH was founded by Ernst Gessner in Aue (D) in the year 1850. It was only four years later that Ernst Gessner invented the first raising machine worldwide, employing the pile and counterpile raising principle, and thus laid the foundation for our production of today. This development of a universal wire raising machine with 24 rotating raising cylinders in the year 1886 was one of the most significant innovations in the field of raising. The system, for which Ernst Gessner had obtained a patent, is the basis of all drum-type wire card raising machines existing today. Ernst Gessner was granted 155 patents and numerous diplomas. His successors have taken over this innovative role and, in fact, more than ever do we feel committed to this tradition. Patented novelty developments from the recent past, such as the Multisystem machine with its unprecedented flexibility in raising, emerizing and brush sueding as well as the Twinsystem double-drum machine with an entirely new drum conception are coping with these high-level requirements.

Xetma Vollenweider AG

Xetma Vollenweider AG, founded by Samuel Vollenweider in the year 1881, has for more than one century been representing the sound mechanical engineering of Switzerland. For over 80 years specialised in the development and manufacture of shearing machinery, Vollenweider has become a well-established name which is associated worldwide with precision and reliability in textile finishing machines. Numerous innovations are proof of Vollenweider's leading role in the shearing sector. The Super Duplo cloth cleaning and shearing machine with a shearing unit of two cutting points and the first shearing machine worldwide having two shearing units arranged one above the other as well as the integration of a polishing unit with two polishing points for high-pile textiles into the Optima shearing machine are only some of the highlights engineered by Vollenweider. With the development of Vollenweider's Pyrotrop singeing technique in the mid-1970s, the range of products for cleaning textile surfaces was extended. The special-type burners of the Pyrotrop system, which is based on the principle of enclosed burner chambers, are a good example for Vollenweider's innovative role also in this field.
